Men Second, Women Third at OVC Track Championships

The Southeast Missouri State men's track team placed second and the women's team third in the O'Reilly Ohio Valley Conference championships at Eastern Illinois University.
Eastern Illinois claimed both titles. The EIU men tallied 246 points with the Redhawks second with 176, Eastern Kentucky third with 89 and Samford fourth with 85. The Eastern Illinois women tallied 197 points with Tennessee State second with 106.5, Southeast third with 105 and Jacksonville State fourth with 96.
Brandon Karcher was a double winner for the Redhawks. He followed Friday's victory in the 10,000-meters with a win Saturday in the 5,000-meters in a time of 15:04.67.
Senior Lindsay Zeiler defended her title in the 1,500-meters to give her 12 OVC titles during her storied career. Zeiler timed 4:33.21 to win. Sophomore Juli Koenegstein who won the steeplechase on Friday came back to place fifth in the 1500.
Whitney Thomas lost a photo finish in the 100-meter hurdles claiming second in a time of 14.52 while Ore Ibe was third in 14.58.
Freshman Brandon Colbert claimed the discus title with a throw of 171-3. Bill Nekula was third in the discus with Richard Martin fourth.
The Redhawks 4 X 400-meter relay team of David Reid, Myron Pettigrew, Chris Poindextger and Chris Williams won in a time of 3:11.91. The women's 4 X 400-meter relay team finished third.
Senior Natasha Fortenberry was third in the 400-meters in a time of 56.42 and ran on both relay teams.
