CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. – (Tuesday, November 18, 2008) – Redhawks softball Head Coach Lana Richmond has announced the signing of Marisa Sanders for the 2009-2010 season. Sanders, a senior at St. Clair High School in St. Clair, MO, is the only signee thus far for the Redhawks softball team for the 2009-2010 season.
In her high school career, she has achieved All-Conference, All-District, and All-State honors at St. Clair High School. Marisa has 22 career home runs and was named her team’s Most Valuable Hitter all four years at St. Clair High School. This past fall as a senior, she batted .625 with 34 runs batted in.
Sanders is a member of the St. Louis Outburst summer league softball team. Sanders, a two sport star at St. Clair High School, was an All-District, All-Conference and All-Sectional shot putter for her high school track & field team.
“Marisa has played a variety of infield positions during her prep career, but we have her slotted at first base as a Redhawk,” says Coach Richmond. “She comes from a program that has produced some of the best Redhawks players in program history in Amy Evers (career leader in games played and at bats) and Jenny Oermann (career record holder in hits) and we see her continuing that tradition. She's an established power hitter with very quick hands. I envision her coming in and contribute immediately offensively."
