Renfrow Shines Early In His Professional Career With Evansville Otters
June 16, 2008
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Former Southeast Missouri State University Redhawks pitcher Dustin Renfrow signed a professional contract with the Evansville Otters recently, and he has been successful in limited action thus far. The right-handed pitcher signed with the Otters, an independent minor league tem in the Frontier League, on June 9.
After a week in the professional ranks, Renfrow has made two appearances and worked just three and two-thirds innings, but he has overmatched his professional counterparts, allowing just two of the 12 batters he has faced to reach base. He has struck out seven batters working out of the bullpen, giving up just one hit, one walk and no runs. Renfrow has yet to earn a decision.
A native of West Plains, Mo., Renfrow transferred to Southeast from Jefferson College in Hillsboro, Mo., for his junior season in 2007. He had immediate success, earning All-OVC Second Team honors as a junior and helping lead the Redhawks to their first 30-win season since 2003.
This season, he was named to the 2008 OVC All-Tournament team after posting a win and a save in 11 innings of work at the tournament in Paducah, Ky. He made three appearances in Paducah, including a complete game victory in the opening round against Austin Peay, and he allowed only two runs on seven hits while striking out eight and walking none.
Renfrow, who displayed tremendous control in his two years at Southeast, ended his collegiate career ranked fifth in the Redhawks career charts for fewest walks per nine innings, issuing just 2.60 bases on balls per game. His 3.44 career earned run averaged ranks 13th all-time.
