Elaine Fisher Selected to Pitch Against USA Softball Team

June 3, 2008

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Tuesday, June 03, 2008) Former Redhawks softball pitcher Elaine Fisher (St. Peters, MO/Francis Howell North) was selected to the St. Louis All Star team that will face the USA Softball National Team in an exhibition game in St. Ann, Missouri on Thursday, June 12. The game is a part of the ASA Softball/USA Softball Bound 4 Beijing Tour that will help the US National Team in preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Fisher concluded her Redhawks playing career this past May after a four-year career that saw her break numerous school career and single season records. This past season Fisher went 19-20 with a 2.75 ERA. She appeared in 46 games which set a new single season school record including 34 starts which tied her mark from 2007 for second on the single season charts. She pitched in 234.1 innings which ranks second in single season charts, striking out 160 batters which also ranks second. She also added six shutouts and two saves in 2008.

For her career she ranks in the top-five in eight statistical categories. She is the school's all-time leader in career strikeouts (501), saves (7), appearances (151) and starts (110).

"This opportunity is a dream come true for me," said Fisher. "I never thought I would have the opportunity to not only meet these women that I grew up watching and idolizing but to get an opportunity to pitch against them in a game is unreal."

The USA Softball National Team is one of only two women's sports involved in the Olympic movement to capture three consecutive gold medals at the Olympic Games since 1996. The USA women have also won eight world championship titles including the last six consecutive.

Currently the US Team is 37-1 during their tour with a 1-0, no-hit loss to Virginia Tech and National Player of the Year Angela Tincher on March 26. It was their first loss since 1996 and snapped a 185-game pre-Olympic Tour streak.

The USA National Team features a collection of the best softball players in the country including two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Jennie Finch and three-time NCAA Softball Player of the Year Cat Osterman.

The game will be held at ABC Park, located on 11050 Livingston, Avenue in St. Ann, Missouri. Gates open at 4:00 p.m. with game time set for 7:00 and autograph sessions following the game. Admission is $20 for adults and $10 for children 17 years and younger. For more information please visit the USA Softball site at www.usasoftball.com or www.softball.org/stlouis/ .
