Southeast Indoor Track Teams Compete at SIU Carbondale
Jan. 15, 2009
Cape Girardeau, Mo. -
The Southeast Missouri State University men's and women's indoor track teams will both compete in the SASF Invite at the Southern Illinois-Carbondale Student Recreation Center on Friday and Saturday.
"This will be a good meet to let us know how much we have improved since our only meet in December," said Redhawks coach Eric Crumpecker. "We brought both teams in for 10 days of practice to get ready for the meet and it looks like our athletes came back from the holiday break in good shape and ready to go. I know they are tired of practicing and ready to compete in a meet."
The SASF Invite will feature a host of collegiate squads including SIU, Arkansas State, Tennessee State, Murray State, SIU Edwardsville, Southeast Missouri and others.
"Our distance runners didn't run in the December meet and so I am excited to see how they will perform," Crumpecker said. "Brandon Funderburk, Jason Lumpkin and Chris Loseman will run the 3,000-meters while Paul Stemmerman will run the mile. For the women, Amy Warren and Monica Noble will run the 3,000. Juli Koenegstein will be held out this week because of a sore knee."
Crumpecker also expects strong performances by the sprinters and field event competitors. The Redhawks have the top long jumper in the OVC with Tyler Terry going 23-10 ¾ in the earlier meet at SIU. He will be one of the favorites this week along with sprinter Ryan Criglar who will long jump for the first time as a collegian.
Josh Uchtman has the top shot put and weight throw in the OVC this year and will be entered in both events at SIU. Ashley Brewer has the top OVC weight throw for women and will be entered in both throwing events.
Rachel Kahle will challenge for the title in the 55-meters and 200-meters and Jerica Hamm will contend in the 200.
The SASF Invite begins on Friday at 4 p.m. and continues on Saturday at 10 a.m.
