MOREHEAD, Ky. - Southeast soccer ended in a draw with first place Morehead State, 1-1 on Friday night at Jayne Stadium. The Eagles (7-6-4, 4-0-3 OVC) earn their 15th point with the tie, which keeps them in first place by two points. The Redhawks (7-5-3, 2-1-3 OVC) pick up their 9th point, which puts them three points ahead of Sunday's opponent, Eastern Kentucky.
Southeast took the early lead in the match with an unassisted goal by Vanessa Hart in the 16th minute of play. Hart put in the goal from 26 yards out to notch her third of the season.
Besides the goal, the Redhawks didn't have much more offense the rest of the game as they only took two more shots in the first half and one in each the second half and overtime periods. Also, none of their other four shots were on goal, as MSU goalkeeper Lily Meisner recorded no saves in the match.
Morehead State had plenty more scoring opportunities with 15 shots and six corner kicks, but Southeast's defense along with goalie Kristen Starkey kept control and only gave up one goal in the 79th minute of play.
The tying goal came off the foot of Bethany Davidson, which was also her third of the year. Micaela Hornstein was credited with the assist.
Starkey snagged five saves in the match, while giving up the one goal to break her two match streak of shut outs. Her OVC leading goals against average remains at 0.84.
Southeast will remain in state to play Eastern Kentucky on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Colonels are one place shy of earning an OVC Tournament berth behind the Redhawks and will need a win on Sunday to keep their season alive. All SEMO has to do is tie with EKU and they will clinch a berth.
