Spring Football Practice Begins on April 8
April 7, 2009
Cape Girardeau, Mo. -
Spring football drills get underway on Wednesday for the Southeast Missouri State University football teams. The opening practice will be at 6 a.m. and coach Tony Samuel, who is in his fourth spring at Southeast, says this is a "very big spring" for the football program.
The Redhawks will practice on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday while getting in 15 practices. The spring football game will be held at 12-noon on Saturday, May 2.
"Spring is about fundamentals and we will stress blocking, tackling and practice tempo," Samuel said. "We have a good nucleus returning from last season, but we also have 13 mid-year junior college transfers who will be going through our spring drills for the first time."
The Redhawks return 36 lettermen from last year's team that was 4-8 overall. There will be 74 players participating in the spring practices. Practices on Monday, Wednesday and Friday will be at 6 a.m. with Saturday practices at 11 a.m. or noon. One exception will be this Friday when the team will practice at 8 a.m. because there are no classes due to the Easter break.
