CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo (Wednesday, September 23, 2009) – The Southeast Missouri State University Department of Athletics and Saint Francis Medical Center will be hosting the “Dig for Life” breast cancer prevention seminar. The seminar will take place Sun. Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the Wehking Alumni Center.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and this special educational event will outline the importance of breast cancer prevention.
The Dig for Life campaign promotes the education of women in the Southeast Missouri area about breast cancer awareness. The campaign also raises money to provide mammograms for women in the Southeast Missouri area who cannot afford them or do not have health insurance.
Members of the Southeast volleyball team secure pledges per dig that are tallied through all October home matches at Houck Field House. The funds raised are allocated to Saint Francis Medical Center for Dig for Life’s mission of providing breast cancer awareness, early detection opportunities and improving prevention efforts.
Since it's start in 2000, the Dig for Life campaign has raised over $65,000 to support early breast cancer education and treatment efforts for women in the Southeast Missouri area.
