Redhawks Tip Off 2011-12 with Monday Night Exhibition Game
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. –
After a month of practice to get acclimated to head coach Ty Margenthaler
's system, the Southeast Missouri State women's basketball team takes the court publicly for the first time on Monday night.
The Redhawks host Harris-Stowe for an exhibition game tonight at the Show Me Center as part of basketball doubleheader tipping off at 5:30 p.m. The men's basketball team follows with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff against Harding.
Southeast returns all five starters from its 2010-11 squad. Despite the 8-21 finish a year ago, the Redhawks have shown encouraging signs of development already with the regular season just days from starting.
“We definitely need to get in the uniforms and perform in front of our fans,” Margenthaler said. “We've come a long way since our first practice on October 2nd and as a coaching staff we're excited to see the progress that we've made to this point.”
Monday night's exhibition promises to give fans a showcase of the improved depth of the Redhawks' roster coming into the 2011-12 campaign. However, Southeast did not come out of camp entirely unscathed. Junior guard Katie Norman
and redshirt freshman forward Brooke Taylor
are day-to-day with injuries. Norman is not expected to suit up in Monday's exhibition.
Monday night's exhibition contest will be Southeast's fans only chance to catch the women's basketball team at the Show Me Center until Nov. 21. The Redhawks open the season with a three-game road trip, which starts on Friday at North Carolina State.
