Athletics Introduces Redhawks Club

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri Department of Athletics officially introduced the Redhawks Club during its recruitment kick-off event Wednesday night at Kem Statuary Hall.

A crowd of approximately 100 people were in attendance as Southeast Athletics re-branded its Booster Club to the Redhawks Club. While the name is changing, the mission remains the same -- to support and promote Southeast Missouri State University Athletics throughout the region in order to champion the Athletic Department's mission in the present and the future.

"I want to thank everyone who attended Wednesday's event to support the Redhawks Club," said Southeast Director of Athletics Mark Alnutt. "We are proud to honor the success and dedication of the Booster Club, and look forward to the start of a new era with the Redhawks Club."

The night began with former Booster Club President Janet Esicar honoring the Booster Club one last time before it embraced its new name. The SEMO Booster Club was first established in 1952 and is celebrating 60 years of dedicated support to Redhawk Athletics. Southeast's Department of Athletics recognized that milestone with a special plaque that will permanently be displayed at the Show Me Center.

Current Redhawks Club President Mike McKinnis then gave a welcome which was followed by a message from University President Ken Dobbins. Alnutt and Coordinator of Marketing and Promotions Nate Saverino were also among guest speakers.

This year, Redhawks Club members can earn great rewards by recruiting their friends, colleagues and neighbors who were not members last season. The support of the Redhawks Club has touched the lives of more than 300 student-athletes who represent Southeast Missouri State University in competition, in the classroom and in the community.

Southeast Athletics is working to achieve goals of 500 new members and over $200,000 through its Redhawks Club fundraising efforts this upcoming season.
