Stone and Vanderpool are Athletes of the Week
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.
- Tyler Stone and Taryn Vanderpool are this week's Montgomery Bank Southeast Missouri Athletes of the Week.
Stone was again Southeast's top scorer, as the Redhawks split a pair of home games last week. Stone, who hails from Memphis, Tenn., had a double-double 20 points and 15 rebounds in the Redhawks 74-62 win over Tennessee Tech (Jan. 19). He made a perfect 5-of-5 field goals and career-high 10-of-12 free throws en route to his fifth double-double this year. Two days earlier, Stone pitched in 11 points against Morehead State (Jan. 17). Stone averaged 15.5 points and 9.5 rebounds, while shooting 66.7 percent (10-of-15) from the field last week. He also made 78.6 percent (11-of-14) of his free throw attempts.
Vanderpool was stellar in Southeast's season debut, tying for the all-around title as the Redhawks defeated Lindenwood on Jan. 20. The Lenexa, Kan., native opened the meet by posting a 9.800 to win the uneven bars. That score was the best handed out for the entire meet. Her 38.525 all-around mark tied teammate Megan Fosnow for the all-around crown as Southeast's season-opening score was over two points better than last year's opener.
