CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. –
The Southeast Missouri track and field programs will entertain SIU Edwardsville on Friday evening at the Southeast Missouri State University Recreation Center in one of two home meets during the 2013 indoor season. Events are slated to start at 4:00 p.m. with the men's and women's pole vault.
Southeast looks to build off of a strong weekend at the highly competitive Indiana Relays last weekend in Bloomington, Ind.
Southeast was led by a pair of Adidas Ohio Valley Conference Co-Field Athletes of the Week in junior Courtney Gapelu, who
earned the honor on the women's side and senior Craig Robinson
getting the nod on the men's side.
Gapelu, a native of Independence, Mo., threw a career-best 49'-4.50” in the shot put in the Invitational event at the Indiana Relays on Saturday afternoon. The mark is the best mark in indoor competition in the Ohio Valley Conference since 2009-10.
She also took the crown in the weight throw with a career-best toss of 55'-0” on Friday evening.
Robinson, a native of Hayti, Mo. took the shot put title at the Indiana Relays over the weekend with a mark of 56'1.75”. He ranks second in the OVC in the shot put this season and leads the OVC in the weight throw.
In the women's running events Sophomore Rebekah Lawson
recorded an indoor career-best and school record in the 5,000m run at 17:36.80. The record was held by Juli Koenegstein who recorded a 17:40.43 in 2009.
On the men's side, the 4x400 relay team of Alexander Anderson
, Kameron Long
, Curt Wood
and Kendrick Farr
ran a season-best time of 3:20.73.
The men's distance medley team (Long, Adam Shivers
, Wood, Alex Zisser
) finished fourth with a season-best time of 10:24.88.
Friday's meet is free to the public as fans are encouraged to come out and support the Redhawks in their first home meet of the season. Field events open up at 4:00 p.m., CT. with running events starting at 6:00 p.m.
