Redhawks Sweep MIC Weekly Awards
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. –
The Southeast Missouri gymnastics team pulled a clean sweep of the Midwest Independent Conference weekly awards on Wednesday.
Junior Taryn Vanderpool
was tabbed MIC Gymnast of the Week for the second consecutive week while senior Emma Garrett
was named MIC Specialist of the Week.
Vanderpool won the all-around with a career-best score of 39.025 in last Friday's dual against Illinois State. Vanderpool won the uneven bars with a season-high 9.850 while placing second on both vault (career-high 9.775) and beam (9.725). Those event wins give her nine first-place finishes this season.
Garrett posted a season-high 9.800 on floor to win the event against ISU and her season-best 9.775 vault score tied Vanderpool for second place. That performance marked the second-straight meet the Jacksonville, Fla., native scored 9.700 or higher in both of her events.
Vanderpool's award is her third weekly honor of the season while Garrett is earning specialist of the week for the first time this season and the second time in her career.
The Redhawks travel to Illinois State for a dual meet on Sunday.
