Southeast Alum Qualifies for PGA Championship
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Former Southeast Missouri State golfer and Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Year, Caine Fitzgerald, has qualified to participate in the PGA Championship beginning August 8 at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y.
Fitzgerald, 39, is an assistant pro at Murphy Creek Golf Course in Aurora, Colo. He qualified for the PGA Championship in June by finishing in the top 20 at the PGA Professional National Championship in Sunriver, Ore.
The 1993-94 golf season proved to be a breakout year for Fitzgerald at Southeast. He opened the fall season tied for sixth at the Bent Creek Classic after shooting 144. He helped lead Southeast to a first-place finish at the Bradley Fall Classic to round out the fall.
At the 1994 OVC Golf Championship at Springhouse Golf Club in Nashville, Tenn., Fitzgerald shot 142 to win the tournament crown and earn himself OVC Golfer of the Year and All-OVC accolades.
Fitzgerald finished the 1995 season with All-OVC accolades after he finished tied for fourth with a score of 224 at the OVC Championship.
Fitzgerald resides in Parker, Colo. with his wife and two children.
