Complete OVC Release

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference has announced that junior Kevin Farley has been named the Male Field Athlete of the Year and Chris Martin is the Male Co-Freshman of the Year for the 2013-14 Indoor Track & Field season.

"I am very proud of these guys," said head coach Eric Crumpecker. "They have each had outstanding indoor seasons for us this year. Kevin works very hard and it has paid off as he has established himself as one of, if not the best, thrower in the conference."

This is Farley's first postseason indoor honor. In the outdoor season, Farley's been named the 2012 Freshman of the Year, 2013 Male Co-Field Athlete of the Year, and the 2013 Championship MVP.

This season, Farley leads the OVC in both the shot put and the weight throw events. His weight throw mark of 63'3.5", which was set at SIUE (Jan. 25), leads the league by almost five feet. The mark was also a career-best for the junior from Springfield, Ill. Farley's 59'0" shot also leads the league, once again by almost five feet. He recorded the toss at the Indiana Relays, Jan. 31.

Martin, a freshman from Cape Girardeau, Mo., ranks in the Top-25 in the league in the 60m hurdles, the high jump, the pole vault, the long jump, the triple jump, and the shot put. Martin's triple jump distance of 50'10" is a league-best this season and is ranked 27th in the nation. He set it in his first collegiate meet at the Saluki Fast Start on Dec. 7. In the OVC, Martin's high jump (6'4.25") ranks tenth, pole vault (12'0") ranks 12th, long jump (23'3.5") is tenth, and shot put (39'3.25") is 17th.

Crumpecker added, "Chris is off to a terrific start in his career. He is a great triple jumper as a freshman, in fact, he is one of top-five freshman in the event in the nation. If he continues to work hard, he will be the best triple jumper in Southeast Missouri history."

A Redhawk has earned the Male Field Athlete of the Year award the last four seasons and six of the last seven indoor seasons. Southeast has also produced the Male Freshman of the Year five times since 2006.

The 2014 OVC Indoor Track & Field Championships will begin Friday, Feb. 28, from Nashville, Tenn.
