Redhawks Fall to #25 South Alabama, 5-2

GULF SHORES, Ala. - Emily Messer went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI to lead #25 South Alabama (5-0) to a 5-2 win over Southeast Missouri (1-4) Sunday at the Sand Dollar Classic.

Tied, 2-2, after three innings, USA took the lead when it pushed across two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Megan Harris singled and stole second. A but single and an error helped Harris come around to score. Messer later touched home when Haleigh Lowe grounded out, giving the Jaguars a 4-2 lead.

Messer singled home USA's final run with two outs in the fifth.

Devin Brown (3-0) picked up the win in relief, tossing four scoreless no-hit innings with eight strikeouts.

Haley Thogmartin (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing seven hits and three runs in three innings. Thogmartin struck out two and walked three, as well.

USA outhit Southeast, 11-5.

Harli Wheeler paced the Redhawks with two hits, while Savannah Carpenter, Haylee Krack and Nicole Deering added one apiece.

Southeast, which wrapped up play at the Sand Dollar Classic, returns to action at the Western Kentucky Tournament on Feb. 26-28.
