Redhawks Open OVC Play
Southeast Missouri (6-11) opens Ohio Valley Conference play with a three-game series against Murray State (9-11) this weekend. The Redhawks and Racers play a 1 p.m., CT, doubleheader Saturday before concluding the series at 1 p.m. Sunday.

OVC Openers
Southeast is 15-9 all-time in Ohio Valley Conference openers. The Redhawks won their OVC opener in four of the last five seasons. Southeast and Murray State last faced each other to begin conference play in 2013.

Home Openers
The Redhawks own an 18-6 record in home-openers since moving to the NCAA Division I level in 1992.. Southeast is 129-121 (.516) all-time at the Southeast Softball Complex.

Good to be Home
Southeast will be in Cape Girardeau for seven of its next eight games. This weekend marks the first time the Redhawks play at home this season. Southeast was initially to host the Southeast Games on Mar. 12-13, but the three-team tournament was cancelled due to heavy rain. The Redhawks close out the month of March with home doubleheaders against Belmont (Mar. 25) and Tennessee State (Mar. 26).

Series History
The Redhawks are 5-12 in their overall series against Murray State. MSU has won  five of the last six games between these teams. The Racers swept Southeast with three one-run victories in Murray, Kentucky last season. The Redhawks posted a series win against MSU in Cape Girardeau one time during the 2011 campaign.

Spring Break
Southeast closes out its spring break against Murray State. The Redhawks went 2-2 in their first midweek action of the season, sweeping a doubleheader at Jackson State (10-1, 9-8) on Mar. 15 and dropping a doubleheader at Southeastern Louisiana (7-1, 4-3) on Mar. 16.

OVC Time
All 12 Ohio Valley Conference teams begin league play this weekend. Southeast, preseason ranked seventh in the OVC in 2016, won five of its last six OVC contests dating back to last year. The Redhawks have a three-game winning streak in league play after ending the 2015 regular-season with a sweep of Austin Peay.

Yard Work
Southeast pounded out 25 hits and five home runs in its doubleheader sweep of Jackson State (Mar. 15). Haylee Krack hit a grand slam, and Darby Pruett, Savannah Carpenter and Danielle Turner also homered in game one. Turner hit another home run in the nightcap. Southeast's four home runs in game one were the most in a game this season and most since the Redhawks hit six against Eastern Illinois on Apr. 25, 2015.

Double-Digit Hits
For the first time this season, Southeast finished with double-digit hits in back-to-back games when it had 12 and 13 in a doubleheader at Jackson State (Mar. 15). The Redhawks posted 10 or more hits three times this year and are 3-0 in those contests.

Among Home Run Leaders
Southeast ranks third in the Ohio Valley Conference with 14 home runs through 17 games this season. Seven different players have hit a home run for the Redhawks. Haylee Krack leads the team and is tied for second in the OVC with four home runs. Danielle Turner follows close behind with three.

Over .300
Claire Wernig and Haylee Krack are each hitting over .300 this year. Wernig is presently Southeast's top hitter with a .345 clip and team-best 13 runs scored in 17 starts. Krack is hitting .311 and leads the Redhawks with four home runs and 14 RBI in 17 games and 16 starts. As a team, Southeast is eighth in the Ohio Valley Conference with a .251 batting average.
