Welcoming the Racers
The Southeast Missouri baseball team (29-11, 18-3 OVC) welcomes Ohio Valley Conference rival Murray State (21-21, 9-9 OVC) to Cape Girardeau this weekend for a three-game series.
The series schedule has been changed due to impending weather in the area over the weekend. The series will begin Thursday at 6 p.m. First pitch Friday is also set for 6 p.m. while Saturday's game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
The series will feature a pair of free tailgates at Capaha Park. Bluff City Beer Co. will be providing free food and beverages on Thursday while The Bank of Missouri and River Eagle Distributing will sponsor Friday's tailgate.

This weekend's series will be broadcast on SEMO ESPN 92.9 FM. Erik Sean will provide play-by-play on the broadcast. Sean will be joined by Jess Bolen who will provide analysis. Southeast Missouri took first place in the Ohio Valley Conference all to itself this weekend after taking two of three games at Jacksonville State. Southeast fell in game one but bounced back to even the series with a win on Saturday. Adam Pennington
entered the game in the fifth inning and pitched lights out en route to the victory. Robert Beltran
followed suit on Sunday. Beltran gave up two runs on four hits in the first inning but settled in and pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing just three more hits in the game. The Redhawks hit .339 against the Gamecocks and outscored them 26-14 in the three games. Southeast's midweek contests against Southern Illinois and Harris-Stowe were rained out.
The Redhawks will close their homestand when Saint Louis comes to Capaha on Tuesday. The Redhawks and Billikens are set to begin at 6 p.m. The game against SLU will be the fifth and final tailgate of the season and will be sponsored by Wings Etc. and Kohlfeld Distributing. Southeast will then travel to OVC foe Tennessee Tech next weekend for a three-game series.

- Fans of all ages will have the opportunity to play catch under the lights of Capaha Field following Friday's game. The field will be open for 30 minutes for fans following the end of the game.

- Mississippi Mutts will be sponsoring Bark in the Park on Friday. The Humane Society of Southeast Missouri will also be at the game.
Scouting the Racers
The Racers enter the series having won five of their last six games with the lone loss coming at Ole Miss. Murray State is coming off an Ohio Valley Conference series sweep of Tennessee Tech last weekend. In the league, the Racers are 9-9 and currently sit in sixth place. Murray has led the OVC much of the season with a team batting average of .315 but Southeast has taken over that distinction with a .317 clip. Murray has matched Southeast's 338 runs total but rank second in the nation with 102 doubles this season. The Racers also rank fifth in hits with 474. Tyler Lawrence ranks fourth in the country with 20 doubles, 12th in RBI, and ranks 24th in hits. Adam Bauer is leading the nation in runs scored with 57 and triples with seven. The Racer pitching staff ranks eighth in the league with a 6.30 ERA. In conference games, the team ERA increases to 7.17 as OVC opponents are hitting .327 off the Racers.
Southeast Missouri leads the all-time series with Murray State, 43-32. Southeast has won six of the last seven meetings with Murray State including sweeping the series a year ago in Murray, Kentucky. The Redhawks dropped the series finale in 2014 at Capaha. Last season's sweep of the Racers was the first since 2006.
Capaha Field Improvements Announced
Southeast Missouri State University and the City of Cape Girardeau have mutually agreed to complete upgrades to Capaha Field, the home of Redhawk Baseball. The total budget for the project set forth by the City and University, including design and construction, is $1.84 million and will be split 50/50 between the parties. Renovations include the installation of infield and outfield artificial turf, new fencing, upgraded scoreboard and dugout expansion. Those things will be completed before the 2017 season. Other plans include an indoor hitting and storage facility that will be fully funded by the University. Completion of the indoor facility is undetermined at this time.
Lucchesi Added to Golden Spikes Award Watch List
USA Baseball released its 60-player midseason Golden Spikes Award watch list on Wednesday, moving closer to naming the top amateur baseball player in the country. Sponsored by Major League Baseball and presented in partnership with the Rod Dedeaux Foundation, the 39th Golden Spikes Award will be presented on June 30 in Los Angeles. The midseason watch list features 60 of the nation's top amateur players from the high school and college ranks. The Golden Spikes Award Advisory Board will continue to maintain a rolling list of athletes, allowing players to play themselves into consideration for the award before announcing the semifinalists on June 1.
Lucchesi on National Pitcher of the Year Watch List
The 2016 National Pitcher of the Year Award is presented by the National College Baseball Hall of Fame. The award, sponsored by Diamond, will be presented on July 2 in Lubbock, Texas as part of the annual Night of Champions event. Seventy-two of the nation's top pitchers appear on the National Pitcher of the Year watch list.
Boggetto Added to Brooks Wallace Award Watch List
The 2016 Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year, sponsored by Mizuno, honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented as part of the annual Night of Champions celebration on July 2 in Lubbock. Boggetto is one of 54 players who appear on the list and is one of three from the Ohio Valley Conference. Clayton Smithson from Austin Peay and Reid Leonard from Morehead State join Boggetto in representing the OVC.
NCBWA Top 30 Poll
Southeast Missouri received votes in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Top 30 poll. The Redhawks received votes in the poll earlier in the season.
The Latest RPI Ranking
In this week's NCAA RPI rankings, Southeast Missouri jumped 20 spots to 37th out of 300 Division I teams. The Redhawks ranked 57th last week. Three OVC programs appear in the top 100. Behind Southeast is Jacksonville State (66) and Austin Peay (67). Morehead State ranks 113th and the rest of the over rank 204 and lower. D1Baseball.com also ranks the Redhawks 37th.
Looking for 37
Southeast Missouri is eight wins away from tying the program record of 37 single-season wins. Southeast set the mark in 2000, tied it in 2002, then tied it again 12 years later in 2014. The Redhawks have 15 regular-season games left on their schedule.
Patience at the Plate
Southeast Missouri ranks third nationally in walks with 235 this season. Mercer leads the country with 249 while Belmont has 240. Southeast is led in walks by Dan Holst
, who ranks 14th in the nation in the category with 37. Trevor Ezell
