– Southeast Missouri was predicted to finish tied for eighth in in the annual OVC Preseason Poll, the league announced Tuesday during its media day at the Double Tree Hotel.
SEMO shares the predicted finish spot with Murray State, who had the exact same conference record as the Redhawks last season at 7-9. Both teams received a total of 101 points in the poll.
This placement matches exactly where Southeast was seeded in the OVC tournament one year ago, as they finished tied with three teams for sixth in league play, and were seeded eighth after tiebreakers.
Belmont was picked to finish first with a total of 242 points including 22 first-place votes. Belmont also had two players chosen for Preseason Co-Player of the Year in Darby Maggard and Sally McCabe.
After Belmont, SIUE (199 pts.), UT Martin (198 pts.), Morehead State (192 pts.), Tennessee Tech (133 pts.), Austin Peay (120 pts.) and Jacksonville State (111 pts.) finished ahead of Southeast and Murray State. Eastern Kentucky (83 pts.), Eastern Illinois (64 pts.) and Tennessee State (38 pts.) rounded out the bottom of the poll.
Southeast tips off the 2017-18 season on the road against Louisville on Nov. 10.
