Football Opens Spring Practice This Week

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri opens spring drills with an early morning practice at Houck Stadium Tuesday.

SEMO is scheduled to take the field at 8 a.m., CT, for its first of 15 practices. A total of 76 players are on the 2017 spring roster.

This year's team includes five returning starters on offense and four on defense.

One of the key position battles willl be at running back. SEMO lost starting tailback Will Young, who was a Second-Team All-Ohio Valley Conference selection last season. Young led the team with 838 yards on 163 carries, averaged 5.1 yards per attempt and scored six rushing touchdowns. He ranked third in the conference in rushing with 76.2 yards per game and had four 100-yard performances. Returnees Eddie Morris and Cameron Sanders, and newcomer Marquis Terry are among contenders at that spot.

A total of 12 mid-year transfers are also on the Redhawks roster this upcoming spring.

SEMO ends its spring practices with its annual spring game on Apr. 13.
