CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. –
Southeast Missouri women's tennis (3-4, 0-0 OVC) ventures to Arkansas State (1-7, 0-0 Sun Belt) for a Saturday dual with the Red Wolves at 4:45 p.m., CT at the Jonesboro Country Club in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Southeast enters the matchup after a historic win over Saint Louis in O'Fallon, Illinois on Wednesday. The Redhawks beat the Billikens, 4-3, for their first dual victory over Saint Louis in over 17 years.
"Beating SLU is a big confidence boost for our team and we are going to carry that confidence into our next match against Arkansas State," head coach Mary Beth Gunn
said. "We really stepped it up in singles play and we are going to show the same tenacity in this upcoming match."
SEMO relied heavily on its three freshman in the dual as they notched three of the four singles wins. Maja Lundell
took her sixth singles match for her first career singles dual victory.
Alessandra Maya Thompson
and Kelly Sicha
each notched their second wins in 2018 on Wednesday. Sicha's victory at fourth singles gave Southeast the dual win and extended her win streak to two matches.
picked up the fourth singles win for the Redhawks against SLU.
Arkansas State holds a 1-7 record in 2018 and fell in its most recent meet, 6-1, to Eastern Kentucky of the OVC on Feb. 3. The Red Wolves were scheduled to face Texas-Tyler last Saturday but the dual was postponed due to the threat of inclement weather in the Jonesboro area.
ASU recorded its lone win this season against Northern Kentucky, 4-3, on Feb. 2.
