BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri sophomore guard Denzel Mahoney was named First-Team All-Ohio Valley Conference and freshman guard Ledarrius Brewer was named to the league's All-Newcomer Team Tuesday.

A native of Oviedo, Florida, Mahoney ranked second in the OVC in scoring with 19.3 points per game in 31 starts this season. He led the Redhawks in scoring, rebounding (5.1) and free throw percentage (.835), and ranked second in 3-pointers made (64) and minutes played (31.3). Mahoney also dished out 39 assists and had 28 steals.

Mahoney ranked among league leaders in five categories, including scoring, free throw percentage (7th), 3-point field goal percentage (9th, .413), 3-point field goals made (10th, 2.1 per game) and minutes played (15th). He scored double figures in 28 starts and pitched in 20 or more points on 14 occasions. Mahoney dropped in a career-high 36 points at SIU Edwardsville on Jan. 18. He went over 1,000 points in his career and finished the year ranked 19th among Southeast's all-time career scoring leaders.

Mahoney, who earned Second-Team All-OVC honors and was the league's Freshman of the Year in 2016-17, is the eighth First-Team All-OVC selection in school history. Additionally, Southeast had a player claim First-Team All-OVC accolades for the second-straight season, marking the first time in program history the Redhawks had a First-Team All-OVC pick in back-to-back years.

Brewer, who hails from Meridian, Mississippi, had a big rookie season. He averaged 14.5 points per game in 31 games and 27 starts as the Redhawks second-leading scorer. Brewer led the team with 71 three-pointers made, helping Southeast break a single-season school record with 289 made threes. He led the Redhawks with 16 blocks, ranked third in steals (29) and finished with 29 assists, as well.

As a true freshman, Brewer ranked 14th in the OVC in scoring, 15th in free throw percentage (.740), sixth in 3-point field goals made (2.3 per game) and 21st in minutes played (29.4 mpg). He scored double figures in 24 of his 27 starts and poured in a career-best 34 points vs. Eastern Illinois on Feb. 15. Brewer was named OVC Freshman of the Week on Feb. 19.

Murray State guard Jonathan Stark was voted OVC Player of the Year and Tennessee State forward Christian Mekowulu was named Defensive Player of the Year. Austin Peay claimed the other two speciality awards with forward Terry Taylor winning Freshman of the Year and Matt Figger securing Coach of the Year honors.
